According to the history, the Eastern Bengal Railway (EBR), which operated the respective broad, and North Bangla State Railway (NBSR), which proposed a hill tramway of two-foot gauge following the Hill Cart Road from Siliguri to Darjeeling, are said to have been the originators of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). The Darjeeling Steam Tramway Co. started building the railway in 1879. In order to complete it as quickly as possible, the construction was done simultaneously on disconnected parts.
Its miniature train, which gushes over the side of the foggy hill and offers stunning views of the valley, is what makes this 88 km long railway track famous in this location.
