Kanchenjunga’s peaks are illuminated before sunrise before the sun is visible at lower levels. Mount Everest (8848 m) is hardly discernible from Tiger Hill. Due to the curvature of the Earth, Kanchenjunga (8598 m), which is several miles closer than Everest, seems higher than Everest. Tiger Hill and Everest are 107 miles apart in a straight line (172 km).
On a clear day, Kurseong may be seen in the distance to the south, along with the Teesta, Mahananda, Balason, and Mechi rivers meandering south. Overlooking the Chola Range is Tibet’s ChumalRhi peak, which can be seen from 84 miles (135 km) distant.
Near Tiger Hill is Senchel Wildlife Sanctuary.
